Welcome to another episode of WyzeCast™, the show that elevates the voices, shines the light, showcases the gifts of our heart-centered guests, and amplifies the positive differences they are making in the world.

Do you spend most of your days feeling tired, overwhelmed, exhausted, burnt out, or disconnected? Do you feel like you are spending your days in the pursuit of someone else’s dream? Are you wondering when you’ll be free to start living with more joy, ease, and fulfillment?

Well, if you’ve answered yes to any of those questions, then I have a treat for you today. Today’s guest spent years hustling for other people’s benefit and approval, often at the expense of her own. However, in reconnecting and rediscovering her own truth and desires, she was able to tap into her intuition, confidence, and conviction. Through embodiment practices and her own healing journey with a 20+ year eating disorder, she’s been able to recreate a life in pursuit of her own passions, freedom, and pleasure. Now, she supports other women in creating this for themselves, as a Feminine Embodiment Coach. Folks, this is not some special gift that only she has access to…

In reconnecting to self, this potential and insight is available to all. It’s our inherent truth as a living, breathing soul.

My name is Melanie McSally, your host for today’s episode, and without further adieu, I would like to give a warm welcome to the gorgeous, soulful, and heart-centered Kimberly Giesin. Kimberly joins us from Michigan in the USA. Welcome, Kimberly!

Kimberly Giesin: Hi, Melanie. Thanks so much for having me. It’s a pleasure to be here.

Melanie McSally
The pleasure is all mine, Kimberly. I’m excited to learn more about feminine embodiment; it sounds so intriguing. What was the trigger or defining moment that had you seek this new path that would eventually lead you to become a feminine embodiment coach?

Kimberly Giesin
Yes, so, as you mentioned during my intro, I spent many years struggling with an eating disorder. And during that time, I was very disconnected from myself and my needs. I spent a lot of that time people-pleasing and looking for support from others and assurance from others. I just very much thought that something was wrong with myself. Something was wrong with me, and I just needed to find some magic solution that I could stick to, and all would be well. What I came to discover was that really wasn’t the case at all.

Melanie McSally
Yeah, I think anyone struggling, whether from a disorder, addiction, or just a hurdle, can relate to wanting to find a magic solution. So, what did this journey look like for you?

Kimberly Giesin
So this journey started with me thinking that I just needed to be more disciplined, there needed to be more rules, and I just needed to find some sort of guideline that I could stick to, that I could follow and just get it right. I tried so many different diet plans and exercise plans, talked to different therapists, and went to the recovery facility to try to recover that way. I mean, everything that I was trying was based on somebody else’s guidelines and what they were telling me that I should be doing. Ultimately, none of this ever seemed to stick and it just led to more feelings of shame, resentment, hopelessness, and unworthiness.

Melanie McSally: That must have been so frustrating and disheartening. So, what did you discover?

Kimberly Giesin
What I actually came to discover was that it was only in coming home to myself and building more intimacy, vulnerability, and trust, and what my own body was trying to convey to me with its needs, signals, sensations, wants, and desires, that I was actually able to see some changes that really started to stick, and ultimately led to drastic improvements and real-life advancements for me.

Melanie McSally
That’s awesome. I remember back when I used to be a competitive triathlete, I’d be in this constant state of what my body needs. Do I need more rest and recovery? Do I need more nutrients? Do I need electrolytes? It’s amazing what your body will tell you if you just stop and listen to it. So, what changes did you see?

Kimberly Giesin
As I started connecting and developing more trust and strength in my own bodily needs and desires, I ultimately had to let this version of myself go, this younger version that essentially didn’t have much trust, love, support, or honor for herself and she was seeking that validation and approval from others. So, in growing and becoming more intimate with myself, I eventually started to speak up for my needs, ask for what I wanted, and make decisions in my life that were more aligned with who I was as a person. So, ultimately, I had to stop playing small and actually be willing to take up space and take action steps in my life that were more authentic to me.

Melanie McSally
What a great lesson to walk away with. What great insight for you. We are all unicorns with our individual magic. We all deserve to take up space, be our authentic selves, and sprinkle our wonderful magic on the world. So I’m so happy for you that this was your takeaway. What do you want people to take away from you sharing this story as it pertains to their own lives?

Kimberly Giesin
So what I really want people to know, that is whatever they’re struggling with, whether it’s an eating disorder, whatever type of coping mechanism, it may be That’s usually just the outer symptom, there’s something underneath, there’s something deeper that’s needing to be looked at. And that can only be found when we are brave enough to search within ourselves and discover this and that oftentimes, the validation and acceptance that we’re seeking from others is something that we’re truly seeking from ourselves. And it’s only once we’re able to truly see and accept ourselves for who we are to come to know ourselves for all of our strengths, grievances, perceived flaws, and power that we’re able to step into this version of ourselves, this unique sense of self that really allows us to move forward in the world and create lasting change, create real change for ourselves and for others. And this is going to be different depending on the person, the individual, who they are, and what they truly want for themselves.

Melanie McSally
Yeah, I love these points that you’re making. I saw this thread and am in a group chat I met today. It was an image, and it was kind of set up like a comic where it had images that evolve and captions underneath. It started with an empty tree, and then somebody was decorating the tree, and the captions said, life is like a Christmas tree; you have to add your own decorations. The person who started the thread said this is a great reminder that life is as we make it, and that’s so true. Often, we forget that we have to add our own magic to life in order to have it be what we want it to be and have it be decorated the way we want it to be decorated. So I love that. I love these points that you’re making, that everybody has their own individual journey, and there is no judgment on anybody; it’s just that we’re all on our own paths, and how we relate to others, and they relate to us is going to be different for each individual person. So thank you for sharing because I think that’s an important reminder to all of us. So, as you’ve been on this amazing journey, have any new passions or a new purpose emerged?

Kimberly Giesin
Yes, Melanie, this was quite the journey for me and actually led to some big changes in my life. I was originally working as a chef, a personal chef for a family, and had been with them for 11 years; that was when I went to school for. I have a degree in business and culinary arts, and I have completely decided to leave that career choice. I started this program to become a coach so that I could help women discover this for themselves, just how powerful this is, to reconnect to yourself and your own truth, and live the life that was meant for you. It’s incredible, and it’s simple, but it’s not easy. I really want to encourage other women to follow their dreams.

I want women to know that they can trust themselves, and all these answers that they’re searching for outside of themselves are within them; they’ve just kind of gotten a little lost over the years. We’re taught to look outside ourselves, to look to the experts, the professionals, when we actually are our own experts for ourselves.

What a transition from the highest stress and heat of the kitchen, literally, to the Zen life of health and wellness. So, amazing. And a fun fact: I also came from a culinary background; I was a pastry chef before I started on my engineering journey, so we have that in common. How does someone know if they need to go on their own journey of self-discovery?

Kimberly Giesin
I would say, if your life seems a little flat, maybe a little dull, like you’re just waking up and going through the motions that have been set forth by others. If you feel stuck, trapped, or small. All of these, I would say, were things that I struggled with in coming to the realization that I needed to heal. Also, once, after having healed, being in this career that I was in and wanting to try something new, I  thought I had to stay in this position, and that wasn’t true. I could branch out and try something completely different.

Melanie McSally
Got it. So if our listeners want more out of their lives, if they’re not feeling fulfilled, or maybe they just want something new, a new challenge, a new experience, just something different. Yeah, okay, awesome. So, how do you help your clients find the authentic version of themselves?

Kimberly Giesin
I work with them one—on—one in a private space, usually online. And we commit to recognizing these sensations within. Just slowly and intimately over time, opening up to whatever is there, allowing it to be present, whether it’s through a mental sensation, a mental image, a voice that they’re hearing, words that they’re hearing, a picture that they’re seeing, whatever kind of sensations they’re having within their body-if they’re noticing tightness, or just slowly awakening to these senses and not judging them. Building a relationship with them, vulnerability towards them, and intimacy with them. This does take some time, but the rewards are incredible.

After you have been doing this for a while, it becomes almost clockwork, checking in with yourself. You instantly know; you just seem to know what you need, what you want. It becomes easier over time. Absolutely. It’s like a muscle rebuilding a muscle. It just takes a little practice, that’s all. I also tend to give clients some homework, if you will, that they can do on their own. Practice where they can commit to spending some time with themselves, whether it’s through dance or meditation, mindfulness, or some just embodied movement to where they’re connecting to themselves and whatever is coming up for them through the body. I usually have them set a timer for a specific amount of time and just move. Move however the body wants to flow and express itself. Again, without judgment, that’s a huge piece, just letting it go and just flowing with what comes up.

Melanie McSally: I love it, love it; that all sounds so amazing. What are you currently working on?

Kimberly Giesin
Right now, I’m currently working on something that I’m going to be releasing in the upcoming year. It’s more of an in-depth program to help women, specifically those who are struggling with diet insecurities, food, exercise, and shame around all of this. I really want to support women in coming to terms with the fact that diets are not necessary. We are capable of feeding and nourishing ourselves and we just need to learn how to rebuild some trust here for ourselves and to relearn what we’ve lost and what we’ve been told that we can’t do for ourselves, which is completely untrue. We know what we need; each body is different, and each individual is different, and we deep down know what we need to nourish ourselves through, not just food and movement, but on a soul level as well. On a mind level, on a heart level, it’s all it’s all part of the process. The program that I’m going to be releasing is going to support women in rediscovering this for themselves and also tapping into more aliveness, more joy, and just excitement, pleasure, sensuality, sensation, and expanding upon this and learning to express it for themselves then to feel safe, and comfortable doing that, and expressing their needs. Enforcing some boundaries if that’s something they need to work on as well. We’re just getting comfortable speaking what they need, connecting to themselves, and just being in radiance, joy, pleasure, and play.

Melanie McSally
Oh wow, helping people work through shame is so needed. Kudos to you for tackling that and looking to add helping clients through shame. It is such an important service, so adding that to your portfolio is amazing. So great! What is your vision for the future? What do you hope to provide your clients going forward?

Kimberly Giesin
And moving into the future, I mean, I feel like the possibilities are endless. Maybe do some writing, working on a book. Maybe some live, in-person retreats. I think that would be amazing. I’d like to learn different modalities and incorporate them all in a way that my clients can utilize them to support themselves through the usage of astrology, tarot, dance, yoga, and herbalism. I’m really interested in many different things. Ceremony and rituals: I’d love to learn more about these things and be able to incorporate them into my services and offer them to women so that they can use them in their own lives and support themselves. That’s the dream. That’s what the future I’m hoping will hold. It’s a little ways off. I’m sure, but one day at a time.

Melanie McSally
Oh, that all sounds so amazing. So amazing. Also, you’ve already talked about it, you already offer and are looking to offer so many much-needed topics. There are so many people in the world who need to work through shame, forgiveness, and self-image, and these topics that you’ve talked about are not easy topics. They’re not topics that a lot of people are willing to step up and tackle, so thank you so much for doing that.
