Welcome to another episode of WyzeCast™, the show that elevates the voices, shines the light, showcases the gifts of our heart-centered guests, and amplifies the positive differences they are making in the world.
Folks, I am excited to bring today’s guest to you. She is a mindset mentor, a master hypnotist, a professional intuitive, and an astrologer. If that wasn’t enough, she is also certified in NLP, which, for those of you unfamiliar with that acronym, stands for neurolinguistic programming. Our guest today takes that unique combination of skills and uses them to help you tap into the success from the big changes you want in your life quickly and easily. Best of all, you get to hold on to your sanity and soul as you go. She knows that when you change your mind, you will change your life. She does that with a mix of the practical and the woo in a way that is designed specifically for you. She lives in Montana with her family, where she enjoys the sadly short but amazingly beautiful summers and watches Star Trek as much as possible throughout the winters.
My name is Melanie McSally, your host for today’s episode. And without further adieu, I would like to give a warm welcome to the beautiful, delightful, and glowing Laura Ordile. Laura is joining us today from Montana, as I mentioned. Welcome, Laura.
Laura Ordile
Hello, thank you. I don’t have my Star Trek shirt on, but I do have Battlestar Galactica today. So we’re safe in the Sci-Fi world.
Melanie McSally
And it’s beautiful back there. You were telling me earlier what that background is.
Laura Ordile
Yes, that’s my backyard. That’s my backyard in fall and summer, and it makes me happy just looking at it. It’s currently snowing here, and so when I get to see this, it just reminds me that it’s okay; you’re gonna have the summer again.
Melanie McSally
I can relate. I’m from Boston, so it’s not nearly as cold, but we, too, have short summers and many other seasons. It seems like the perfect place, I would say. Being from a city where there are all sorts of lights, and it’s really hard to see the sky, your area, on the other hand, seems like the perfect place to be able to see the sky and be in tune with astrology.
Laura Ordile
Yeah, it’s pretty amazing. We do get to see the stars really beautifully here, thankfully, especially where I live, away from the area, the city part of where I live, and it is gorgeous. It is gorgeous. And the stars tell us so much. They tell us so much in the astrology world. It’s so fun to use what’s been there for thousands and thousands of years to be able to help somebody now. And even though people call it woo. They say, oh, it’s very woo-woo, what’s your sign, and they make jokes out of it. It’s really a science. And it’s it amazed me when I started to learn about it, how accurate and how interesting it is because I could go to a chart and say, here’s what happened at this time in your life. And it’s like, oh, yeah, and then we start talking about it, and they’re going, oh, my goodness, yeah, because this is what’s there, and this is what’s happening. Every time I go to a chart, it’s obviously something different for everyone, but I always love finding the beauty in it. I always love finding how amazing the person is just from looking at the snapshot of the stars from when they were born.
Melanie McSally
Yeah, I mean, it’s just like most things in life; it’s information, and I believe in all doors. So, if something’s going to inform me, then great, I’m open to all doors being open, and I’m open to information. I have tried to read it ahead of time. I’ve tried to read it read it in reverse. Mine is always accurate. It’s uncanny. I look at it, and I’m like, oh, today, a press release is going to be put out in the world for me.
Laura Ordile
Yeah, it’s fascinating, and it validates so much for people when they’re able to see what they came into this world with really is meant to serve them, really is meant to help them to be successful in being the person that they’re meant to be in the world. Unfortunately, a lot of times, people get shut down for that part of them because you might have a really strong sense of, I talk about the elements a lot. The elements are really important in how we balance out our days and our lives and all that. When you can look at all four elements, it’s basically like driving a car. You want to have all four tires balanced out so that you don’t have one that’s all jacked up, and you’re kind of rolling along in a weird way, and you don’t want to have one that’s flat, where you’re just not getting anywhere. So when you balance them all out, you come into an awareness. What you said about opening all the doors, awareness is like the key to life. I think when you come into an awareness of something, it will lead you and open up to something even wider to show you the way and allow you to see the things that are there.
It’s like when you go into a big convention center or something. You open that door, and you go in, and you’re like, wow, this is incredible. You walk up to one of the booths to start exploring, and they go, oh, look, I have this other door. Then you walk through that door, and you don’t even know there is a whole other place there. You open it up, and there’s this whole other thing that’s there, and it’s like, oh my goodness, wow. That’s what awareness does in our lives; it starts to lead us to more and more things. With astrology, even if I’m just talking to someone about the elements in their chart, Scorpios, I’ll start with Scorpios because I love… People are like, oh my gosh, Scorpios. Ooh, stay away from Scorpios; they’re intense, they’re deep, and they’ll lash out at you. All these things about Scorpios. But what they don’t understand is that Scorpios, all water signs, but especially Scorpios, are crazy amazing at seeing things in this world that the rest of us don’t really see. It’s like that underwater picture. If you’ve ever seen one of those pictures that clearly shows what’s above and below the water. That’s what a Scorpio sees. They see all of that amazing stuff that’s underwater, which might be related to things that the rest of us don’t really want to know about. We sit up on the boat thinking, it’s kind of murky down there. I don’t know about that. It’s a little creepy. A little scary. You know, I don’t know if I want to really dive into that. And the Scorpio is thinking, no, it’s amazing. Let’s talk about this. Let’s talk about it, and they’re going to talk about all the deep things in life and death and sex and taxes and all the deep things that people think, eww, I don’t know. But if you realize that those people are showing us something that is so beautiful, that if we just listen and ask a few questions, we’re gonna come to such an awareness of what is there that it’s going to open up doors for us to, Isn’t that incredible?
Melanie McSally: Yeah, I’m a Scorpio rising. So I get it, and I love a good rabbit hole discussion, and I can go pretty deep.
Laura Ordile
Yeah, and that’s what you’re meant to do because they talk about Scorpios being secretive or whatever, but they dig. They’re the detectives. They will dig out all of the things. They will ask people all the questions. Sometimes, they will go deep with those questions, and somebody might go, whoa, why are we going that deep this quick? But for them, that’s where the fascination of life is. It’s not about all the stuff up on the surface that everybody can see; they want to dig deeper and see the beauty of the person, the little quirks of the person, and the interesting parts of life. It’s incredible. It’s incredible.
Melanie McSally
Yeah, we were talking about this earlier, too. Everybody is meant to be who they’re meant to be, and not everybody is for everybody. So I have an abundance of water in my chart, and I do have fire as well, but my mom is a Leo. So when I wake up in the morning, my mom’s always like, hi, how are you this morning? What are you doing? What’s going on today? Yada, yada, yada, and I’m always like, whoa, may I have my breakfast first?
Laura Ordile
You might want to go sit it in the bathtub for a while by yourself and just kind of come into the world. And Leo’s are so cute. They’re so funny because they’re like, look at me, and then they’re like, oh, don’t look at me. They’re meant to be seen, and that might mean that they love to have their hair done or they love to look beautiful. They love to have the thing and be showing up. Think about the lion that has the big mane, and they’re out there presenting themselves that’s a Leo.
Melanie McSally
And everybody has their own unique thing. I know when we’re going to the grocery store, my mom’s hair and makeup are done, and I’m in yoga pants and a tank top. So, we need another twenty minutes before going to the grocery store.
Laura Ordile
Yeah, and that’s okay. When you can show someone that’s okay because that’s where you are most comfortable, you’re doing okay. Maybe you need… A lot of the water signs show us about the emotional side of the world. They show us how to be. Pisces shows us how to be connected to the mystical and the magical, connected to all of that to see the different ways that people can go because the Pisces and the fish go two different ways. So they’ll look and kind of say, which way do we go? Where do we connect? Cancers are beautiful family warriors; they will care about people in such immense ways, sometimes too much, and that might be the hard spot for them, where they do need to learn that you are always going to have a heart for people out there. So you have to remember to use it in the way that is best, and that lets you be okay, too, and not take on everyone else’s emotions. Learn to be the empath instead of the sympath so that you’re not just absorbing everything in the world. But you’re using that amazing empathy in the way that it’s meant to be.
Melanie McSally: I have not heard of this word: sympath. What does that mean?
Laura Ordile
The difference is that I think that a lot of people struggle with feelings, especially people who have a lot of feelings and everything. They are sympaths. They take on. They have sympathy and sympathetic feelings for everyone. They will take everything on and not know what to do with it. So, they’re overwhelmed, and they get crazy, and they’re like, I can’t be out in the world because I’m such an empath. Well, honestly, what they are is a sympath because they’re not able to manage and control what they allow in and what they don’t. The empath has worked at learning how to do that and uses it in the way that they’re meant to. We are meant to have that empathic knowledge that’s there. It helps. It helps people care. Think about the caretakers. They are very empathic usually, and that helps guide how they treat the people who are with them. They use that intuition. They use that empathy to understand what that person needs. So it’s a valuable thing. And you don’t want to shut it off completely. But you want to know that you’re going to use it when you want to use it when you need to use it, and you’re also going to put it a little bit of a force field around you that says, I’m not going to let all of these emotions that are around me come into my world. I’m not going to be the beacon that attracts everything. Instead, I’m going to find a way to balance what I take in, what I put out, and what I allow in my life. The difference between a sympath and an empath. Important.
Melanie McSally
And I learned something new. So thank you for that. We were talking earlier about being okay with not knowing the answer to every question, and you just demonstrated that, so thank you.
Laura Ordile
You’re so welcome. Interesting. When I learned that it made so much sense because everyone was always saying, I’m so empathic, and I’m like, well, goodness, how come you’re not doing this, or this, or this and then I found out that they’re not really empathic; well, they are, but they’re more on the sympath side until they learn to structure that a little bit and use it for their benefit.
Melanie McSally
Yeah, I remember. One time, I was in a breathwork workshop. There were probably two hundred people in the room. So imagine a seminar where everybody’s doing breathwork. There are about two hundred people. We got to this one particular phase, and all of a sudden, all this energy came into my body, and it was not energy I wanted, and I was like, what is happening here? Then, I was like, I’m not okay with this; help me get this back out again, and it worked. Sometimes, I’m amazed at my own power. I can imagine other people are, as well.
Laura Ordile
Yeah, we are so powerful, and we’re in control of ourselves. We’re the navigators. We choose where we want to go, and if it’s not going right, there are ways to correct it.
Melanie McSally
So, as you probably know, we are here to help empower the change-makers who are looking to make a better tomorrow. We put out the call, and you responded. I know that you’re a heart-centered business looking to help create a better tomorrow. So, can you tell us a little bit about what you do and how you are helping with your own mission to create a better tomorrow?
Laura Ordile
You bet. I bridge the practical and the woo. We’ve talked a lot about the woo-woo side of things this morning. I believe it all needs to be useful as well in the world. So when I studied everything, I found ways for it to be useful in helping someone to move forward in the way that they want to. A funny little story: I decided I needed to add in even something more practical, and so, for me, that actually came in the form of studying hypnosis. Some people might think that’s kind of woo, but for me, it was very practical. So I stepped into that, and that really has taken me on such an amazing journey. I’m so happy that I did step into that and became aware of it. Through that, it’s become more and more of an awareness of certain directions that I want to go with it, and I’m working with a protocol right now that is so incredible. It’s magical almost, to me. I feel like I have bridged the magic and the practical there. I’m working right now with people who have experienced any kind of trauma. Most people don’t realize that pretty much everyone has experienced trauma. You might not realize that it happened at two years old. But there’s a part of us that has experienced trauma. That little part sometimes gets stuck at that two-year-old point, and we just go on kind of living our life while they’re experiencing this trauma over and over again. Then, it starts to show up in your life later. Through migraines. Through headaches. Through IBS. Through anxiety. Through all of these different things, because our body is trying to communicate with us that there’s something that we need to deal with. It can often even be just feeling stuck, that you cannot make anything get you to where you want to be. You just can’t get there. You’re doing all the things, and it’s not happening. I can’t get to that next level. That’s usually because you have something stuck in the subconscious. What happens is that when we’re tiny, even before we’re born, our subconscious starts to be programmed, and so we live our lives. It does that up to about seven years old, and then we live our life until we decide to change something in that programming with that programming that we had in place when we were little. I don’t know about you, but I know that five-year-old me isn’t always gonna make the same decisions and want the same things that I want now in my life. So, in order to make those changes come forward in success, in good relationships, in good health, all of those things, we might need to do a little reset at that sub-subconscious level because the subconscious is basically the bus driver in our life. It’s the one that’s taking us along the way, and it’s going to keep doing it because its main goal is to keep us alive and okay, and if you’re alive, it figures it’s doing its job, so don’t bother me with trying to change anything. So, you have to go in and kind of reprogram the GPS directions in order for it to go off and head in a new direction. Then you don’t hit those blocks. You don’t hit those things. You clear all the crap that you have going on in your life. It’s like magic, and I love watching that happen.
When I’m dealing with someone who has PTSD or CPTSD, and they have twenty, it’s like… I dealt with someone the other day who had seventeen symptoms, seventeen deep, intense symptoms. We cleared it in six weeks. Six weeks. Wow. How did? I don’t know. Honestly, there’s an I don’t know. I don’t know exactly how that happens, but it does, and it’s incredible. When I can do that and give someone such an amazing, clear path forward, that to me, that’s my heart right there. That’s something that I don’t know that I can’t do anymore. I have to do that because there are people out there that think they’re broken, and they’re not fixable, and that’s simply not the truth. That is not true. There are people out there who just deal with chronic fatigue or deal with fibromyalgia or deal with chronic headaches, and they just accept this is how it’s going to be. This is my life. This is what I’m going to live with, and I have to work around it to build my business, my life, and my things. No, you don’t. You don’t have to live with it. There are ways to clear it, to cure it, to get rid of it. Yeah. Did I answer your question?
Melanie McSally
Yes, I’m using so many juicy nuggets in there that I could, you know, riff off of, so it’s interesting because I have this saying: there’s got to be a better way. So, I routinely tell my clients. Because my clients are not technologists. They hired me for that, so when I give them a task to do, it takes a while for them to come back to me. I reach out to them to ask them if they need help. Do they, whatever, and I always get this answer: oh, it’s so hard. I don’t know how to do this. I don’t know how to do that. And I’m like, if it’s hard, then there’s a better way, so you need to tell me that something is hard. Hard could be, I don’t understand. Hard could be, I don’t know how. Hard could be a whole number of things, but I refuse to believe anything has to be hard. So whenever I’m looking at something, I’m like, I’m gonna keep walking around to get a different perspective until I find the one that makes this not hard. In some cases, I might have to do it differently, and that’s fine. But yeah, so if there’s a shortcut, and that shortcut is hypnosis or superconscious work or whatever… I remember when I was doing the superconscious work, I remember being like, I don’t know what’s happening, but it’s great that it works. I don’t understand it at all, but I can feel it working. It’s almost like in Harry Potter when they take the wand, and they pull the memories out and put them in the pensive. I don’t need that. Let’s put that down here. If I could bring an analogy to it, that’s what it would feel like. But I have; I’ve literally seen a giant pencil come into my head and erase stuff that wasn’t serving me anymore. And I remember, because of the bullying, I was obviously conscious of it, and so I was welcoming in people, relationships, whatever, that didn’t serve me, that might bully me in another way, shape, or form. So we were going through all of those and reprogramming them, and I remember the first one that happened, and it just gave me this instant opening and instant weight off my shoulder, and it was like that pencil moment, and I was like, that was fun. Let’s do it again. How about this one?
Laura Ordile
It’s cool, isn’t it? It’s so incredible, and then you see these things happen, and you see these moments in people’s lives where the switch flips, and everything is different from that moment on, and it’s just like… I talk to my clients and tell them you will know. You will know when we’ve gotten there, when we’ve gotten to that route, to that thing that is like the sliver that’s down in your palm that we really need to go down and dig out because then everything is going to be fine.
Then, once we get that out, everything is going to clear up and be fine. I remember talking to someone recently, and we got done with that six-week period. I was talking to her in her follow-up, and she said you were right. I just knew. I knew everything was different. I don’t know how it happened. I don’t know what it was, but I knew everything was different. And I was like, yes, I love that. I love to give somebody that moment. Basically, I’m tour-guide-Barbie. I’m just the person who’s guiding them to open the door, like you said, to allow the change to happen and bring it in a way that helps them. Honestly, all roads lead to Rome. So, if you find a different way to do something that works for you, good on you, do it. Go for it. do the thing because we’re all meant to explore all the different things. Whatever it is for you, that helps you find the space where you can be okay, regardless of what’s going on around you. Do that.
Melanie McSally
Yeah, and I know there’s a lot of stigma around anything that has to do with the mind, whether it NLP, hypnosis, or whatever, there’s a lot of stigma around it. I don’t want you to manipulate me. I don’t want you to control, you know. All these things. So, are there a couple or top three that you want to dispel? Myths, that is.
Laura Ordile
Yes. So, number one is that I’m absolutely not in control of you. When I’m doing the work, the client is always in control. Always. Their subconscious is always in control, I should say. I’ve had them wake up right out of a session because they weren’t really ready to go in and deal with that particular thing. It’s okay. That’s fine. Not a problem. I’ve also had them where something else has happened, or a situation comes in, or they just need to be awake. They’re not going to stay under. They’re going to come up and awake. So I’m not the one in control of the situation. They are. Any time they want to come up. If they don’t like what I’m saying, if they’re uncomfortable with it, they’re going to come awake.
I guess number two would be that I don’t do installations. I guess you would say, which might be a way that they used to do it a long, long time ago to say, broccoli tastes like chocolate. Go ahead. Eat that. You’re gonna enjoy that so much more now. I don’t do that because it’s like this little tiny band-aid that’s going over something that’s not going to hold; it’s not going to work. It might work for a short period of time, but it’s not going to stay in place. In order for it to really result in serious change in life. We go in and talk with the subconscious to find the best way because our subconscious is connected to the universe. So it’s going to go out and find the quickest, easiest, healthiest way for you to make the change in your life. So that it doesn’t damage you any further in any way, shape, or form. So, your mind is choosing the way to make the change. I’m just saying, let’s make the change. Let’s find a new way to do it.
Gosh, I just lost my third one, and it was really important. It was a good one. Oh, you can’t do it wrong. You can’t do it wrong. So people go in really nervous. Sometimes, I see practitioners who are nervous about somebody not going deep enough. Or the client is like, I kind of remember most of that, or they go, you know what, I don’t remember anything; what was I supposed to see? What was supposed to happen? Nothing is supposed to happen besides the fact that you’re supposed to get through the process, hopefully, all the way through. Even if you wake up in the middle of a session, and you are like, okay, that’s enough for today. You didn’t do it wrong. Your mind said that’s enough for today. That doesn’t mean we can’t come back and do more, which we will do, especially if you’re working with me. I’m not going to leave it at that. We’re going to come back and do the work. That means that, however, you go through the process, if you come in and out of the kind of floaty part of it, if you fall asleep, I’m okay with my clients falling asleep because their subconscious mind is still listening. It’s still awake. How do I know that? You’re still breathing. Your body and everything are still functioning, which comes from that subconscious mind. So remember that. Don’t ever think that you’re going to do it wrong. And for you practitioners out there, don’t worry if the person is fidgeting or doing those things. It’s okay. You’re still having that conversation with the subconscious mind. There you go.
Melanie McSally
Yeah, that’s awesome. Back to our ‘all open doors’ conversation, I remember doing research a long time ago, so I don’t remember the exact stats. You might know what they are, but our subconscious or superconscious is what three times the the size of our conscious mind. And we actually store every bit of information that we’ve ever come across, learned, or brought in through one of our senses: skin, touch, sound, smell, hearing, sight, all of it. I think it was either Tolkien’s The Hobbit or War and Peace. I can’t remember which one it was, but the amount of information we consume on a daily basis is equivalent to one of those two books. I think it’s The Hobbit, and it’s like reading The Hobbit every single day for your entire life. If you could imagine, and it’s what, 350 pages or something like that. So, if you think that you don’t have any limiting beliefs or any negative information, then you’re sorely mistaken. And also because it’s considered the supercomputer of your brain. It’s the one that keeps the lights running, you breathing, and your heart pumping while you’re sleeping; it’s handling all the unconscious behavior that needs to happen. Fun fact: the first computer invented was modeled after the supercomputer in your brain. So why not leverage that computational power? It’s like, again, going back to the ‘all open doors’ comment. So, do you have any final thoughts for our listeners?
Laura Ordile
Oh, goodness. Well, I would say… I’ve kind of said it already: find your own way. Find the way that works for you. But, if I could give anyone advice… One of the things that happens a lot in my work and the work that I do, is that I’m kind of a last resource for people. They’re like, well, nothing else has worked, okay, let me try this. They’ll come. Do it first. Go in and work with the mind first because you’re right. It is the subconscious. You can look it up, but it’s anywhere between 94 and 97% of what is going on in our life; that’s the amount that the subconscious is controlling 90-something percent. So all of the information is there. And, like I said, it’s connected to all of the information in the world. So there’s information out there somewhere that’s going to get you where you want to be, as I say, in the quickest, easiest, most complete way possible. So start there. Start and then go forward with a clear path with a new sense of the strength within you, the motivation, the capabilities, because hypnosis doesn’t only take away things like smoking, anxiety, weight issues, all those things. It doesn’t only take away things. It can boost things, turn things up, and allow you to move in the things that you want. Success and happiness all have… Our subconscious literally controls the hormones in our body. How do we get to be happy? Hormones. We can work with our minds. So start there. Start at the mind, and then take the action steps. Then go in and do the strategic work and all of the other things because now you don’t have anything stopping you from actually knowing that it’s not so hard. It’s much simpler than you ever thought it could be to do what you want to do.
Melanie McSally
Absolutely. A lot of my guests who are in the health and wellness space say your body is your best friend, your biggest champion, and your advocate, so treat it wisely. I would extend that even further to leverage it as your support system. So, if your mind has the easypass to achieve your success to get you over anxiety, past any of these limiting behaviors you want to release, supercharge your success, and eliminate procrastination… I’m actually recalling what I saw on your website with all of these free downloads you have. So, if you want to do any of those things, we’re going to put the link below, as well as in the description. Laura has a wealth of information on her site. She has all these free downloads for how you can get started. If you want to dip, just put a little toe in the water first to see what it’s like and all that stuff. So again, we’re talking about how to leverage yourself to achieve your own goals and to release anything that’s no longer serving you, even those things that you’re unaware of. That’s cool. Once again, we’ll put the link in the description as well as on the screen. Laura has a lot of wonderful free downloads that you can try. And, of course, if you want to work with Laura, I believe there’s a way to do that on your website as well, correct?
Laura Ordile
There is, yeah. My website has pretty much everything and has a way to reach out to me to get a free call if you’d like to talk about what it is that you might need in your life. It has the freebies that I love to put out, and it also has a link to my podcast, so you can listen to some of the information that I put out there. Yeah, it has just about everything. You can literally go in and book appointments with me, as well as some of the packages that I have. And I do do packages, not usually individual sessions, just because I find that’s where the most success comes from.
Melanie McSally
Yeah, absolutely. I would totally agree with that. Thank you, Laura, for being a guest on the WyzeCast™ show. It’s been such a pleasure and a delight talking about all things science and woo.
