In this episode, I sit down with Danie Muniz, somatic breathwork practitioner and founder of The Peace Teacher, to explore a modality that is both deeply rooted in science and surprisingly accessible — somatic breathwork. I also get to share my own first breathwork experience, which involved a Snickers bar, a three-hour session, and absolutely no idea what I had signed up for.

Featuring Wyze Guest Guide Danie Muniz

Danie Muniz is a somatic breathwork practitioner, intuitive astrologer, NLP master practitioner, and founder of The Peace Teacher. With a practice rooted in inner alchemy — weaving together breathwork, astrology, hypnosis, NLP, and Akashic Records reading — she helps people move from striving to purposeful living through the wisdom of the body and the cycles of nature.

What We Cover in This Episode

  • What somatic breathwork is and why it’s different from just taking a deep breath
  • How the body stores stress and experiences — and what happens when we finally let them move through
  • How Danie combines full moon astrology with breathwork for monthly release and celebration
  • What to expect in a breathwork session — including the physical responses most people don’t see coming
  • Who should take precautions before their first session and what makes breathwork safe
  • How Danie’s journey from a corporate Franklin Covey class led her to becoming a somatic breathwork practitioner

What Is Somatic Breathwork?

Somatic breathwork brings two things together. Somatic means relating to the body. Breathwork means using the breath intentionally to shift energy. When combined, the practice creates a pathway for the body to move through and release whatever has been stored inside it — from everyday stress and anxiety all the way through to deeper traumatic experiences that the body never fully processed.

Danie references the book The Body Keeps the Score as a foundation for understanding how the body holds onto experience. Her own definition of trauma is broader than most — she views it as something that happens within us, not just to us. An experience doesn’t have to be catastrophic to leave a residue in the body. Tension, anxiety, emotional aftermath from an argument, chronic pain — all of it can have a somatic component. Breathwork gives the body a way to complete the cycle it never got to finish.

What makes somatic breathwork particularly accessible is that everyone already has the tool. Danie describes it as one of those modalities that needs no convincing — we all breathe, we all experience stress, and we all intuitively understand that when something feels overwhelming, slowing our breath down helps. Somatic breathwork takes that instinct and makes it intentional.

Full Moon Breathwork and the Lunar Cycle

One of the things Danie does that I find genuinely beautiful is her full moon breathwork sessions. As an intuitive astrologer, she reads the planetary landscape of each full moon and builds a theme around it — what is asking to be released, what is ready to be celebrated, what patterns might be worth looking at.

The lunar cycle, she explains, is a natural rhythm for intention and release. The full moon sits at the midpoint of the cycle — two weeks after the new moon intention was set, two weeks before the next cycle begins. It is a moment to celebrate what has been accomplished and let go of the should-haves and could-haves so they do not carry into the next phase. Danie described it the way I think of it too — like a phoenix moment every 29 and a half days. A natural reset built into the calendar.

Her full moon sessions open with breathwork designed to release whatever is connected to the theme — limiting beliefs, old decisions, stored experiences — and close with an invitation to consciously choose what to call in for the weeks ahead.

What Happens in a Session

Danie is refreshingly honest about what people might experience in a breathwork session, and I appreciate that because the not-knowing can be one of the biggest barriers to trying something new.

One of the most common physical responses is tetany — the hands start to cramp or curl inward, which people sometimes call crab hands. This happens because the rhythmic breathing of a session changes how oxygen moves through the body. Slowing the breath down resolves it quickly. It is not a sign anything is wrong.

Release can show up as laughter, crying, yelling, or the body wanting to move — legs shifting, arms rising, swaying. Danie encourages participants to follow whatever the body is calling for rather than trying to stay still. She shared that in her own practice, her right leg always wants to move during breathwork, and she used to resist it until a teacher told her to let the body do what the body knows to do. Animals reset their nervous systems the same way — it is entirely natural.

For first-time participants, Danie recommends starting with a shorter session — 15 to 20 minutes — or working with a trained practitioner for longer sessions, especially if deeper material starts to surface. She also notes that pregnant people, particularly in the third trimester, and anyone under the influence of substances should approach with care.

From Effective Person to Purposeful Woman

Danie’s own path started not with spirituality but with a Franklin Covey corporate effectiveness class — the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. That class introduced her to mission statements, which opened a door to asking bigger questions about who she was and what she wanted. From there she found NLP, became a master practitioner, and eventually a trainer. She was simultaneously drawn toward spirituality, moving away from the Catholicism she was raised in and into pagan traditions, the cycles of nature, and eventually astrology.

She came to somatic breathwork after years of searching for the right approach. The masculine, forceful breathwork she first encountered did not fit. When she found a practice that balanced the masculine and feminine — meeting the body with both structure and gentleness — everything clicked. She officially certified as a practitioner three years ago, though she had been drawn to the work for a decade before that.

She describes her full practice now as inner alchemy — bringing together breathwork, astrology, NLP, hypnosis, and Akashic Records into sessions that meet each person exactly where they are. Her top value is growth, and she is deliberate about only working with teachers she feels genuinely aligned with. She currently has her Reiki teacher already identified — she is simply waiting for the right timing to begin.
